WE DON’T BUILD THE LIFE WE WANT BY SAVING THE TIME, WE BUILD OUR LIFE WE WANT AND THEN THE TIME SAVE ITSELF -LAURA VANDERKAM

We all have heard the lectures from our parents and teachers that time waits for none. It is not about what time does for us but how we make the best out of what we have. With the busy schedules we are running a race where we want to get everything still at the end of the day we are never satisfied. We always claim we don’t have time. We could have done it better. It is the task which was impossible to achieve.

Realistically we are trying to finish everything which may or may not be beneficial for us. To effectively make the most out of your day read on with us.

STEP 1 – EXPLORE

UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANT OUT OF MANY

Most of us don’t know what we have to do, therefore we don’t get what we want. To start with we need to explore the possible tasks which com e in our mind before getting started.

Use three buckets to segregate your goals. In these three buckets list down various efforts you think you have to make. Take insight from the following information:

  • Career.

Instead of pushing your brain to come up with goals, start with asking these following questions “What do I feel deeply inspired by?” and “What am I particularly talented at?” and “What meets a significant need in the world?” . Naturally you won’t come up with loads of ideas but that’s the point, we need to find all those things that provides highest level of contribution.

  • Relationship.

It starts with asking “What kind of person i want to be remembered as, when i die? and then you back trail your goals to the present, the result of which would be the desired personality.

  • Personal

It starts with asking questions like how can i have health lifestyle? What are those activities that contribute to my personal growth & development? How should i be and look like at the age of 60?

Spend as much time as possible exploring, listening, debating, questioning, and thinking. The work is not done with exploring your tasks. The purpose of the exploration is to understand the important out of many

STEP 2 – ELIMINATE

FOCUSING ON WHAT IS IMPORTANT

We all know that we are not superhumans or we do not have godly powers with which we can do everything. In reality we have to know that whatever we do comes with a consequence or reward. Therefore it is essential to identify those tasks/goals which are important to us.

In this section we will understand various tools to eliminate the rest and focus of things that are important to us.

Prioritize:

  • URGENT AND IMPORTANT:

these are the tasks which are important to perform and which can’t be delayed in action and have to be done immediately.

  • NOT URGENT BUT IMPORTANT:

these are the tasks which are important to perform to yield higher results but aren’t to be actioned immediately.

  • URGENT BUT NOT IMPORTANT:

these tasks are to be performed in hand and immediately but aren’t too important just consume time.

  • NOT URGENT NOT IMPORTANT:

these tasks are neither urgent nor important and mostly involves actions which result in wastage for energy and time and yield no results for betterment.

So practically, most effective work should be done according to the second quadrant where work is important but not urgent so you can complete work without pressure.

STEP 3 – EXECUTE

GETTING THINGS DONE

This step includes the most efforts and somewhere we all know that without doing we won’t get anywhere. Execution is vital and can not be eliminated. Now we need to focus how we have to execute it?

  • Identify your most productive time of the day

Observe yourself for some days and you’ll definitely get to know that in a day when are you the most productive. This will be the time where you’ll be able to focus and do your best. This duration will become your MAGIC ZONE.

  • Complete the important tasks at this time

Above we prioritized our tasks and identified which are most important to us, you have to complete our important tasks in the MAGIC ZONE-our most productive hour of the day. We’ll yield higher result and efficiency by  this.

  • Avoid multi tasking

There is no such thing as “me sab kar sakta hu”. We can’t do everything or have everything. So don’t even try to do tasks altogether you’ll end up doing nothing. Finish one thing at a time with all efforts in it.

  • Shutdown distractions

We live in a world of whatsapp, facebook, snapchat, instagram etc.etc.etc. We can’t stay away from all this and i’m not asking you to stay away from these. But you have to eliminate all those distractions (calls from friends, fb notifications, mails, vendors etc.) which are keeping you from doing your job at hand. It will be quite difficult in  the beginning but once you establish a system you’ll be on-board with excelling your time and tasks.
